Embark on a demanding high-pass adventure across the Annapurna range via Namun La, Kangla Pass, and Mesokanto La. Explore remote Gurung villages, Naar Phu Valley, Tilicho Lake, and dramatic Himalayan landscapes on this unforgettable expedition.
This demanding and spectacular trek crosses the heart of the Annapurna range via a series of high Himalayan passes, linking remote Gurung villages, hidden Tibetan-influenced valleys, and stunning high-altitude lakes. Designed for experienced trekkers seeking adventure far from crowded trails, this journey offers an exceptional blend of dramatic landscapes and authentic mountain culture.
After Pokhara, the trail climbs steadily toward Tara Hill Top and Kori Hill, where the first panoramic views unfold. From these viewpoints, trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking vistas of Annapurna South, Machapuchare (Fishtail), and surrounding peaks, setting the tone for the adventure ahead.
One of the early highlights is the crossing of Namun La Pass (4,920 m), a wild and rarely traveled pass facing the mighty Manaslu range. From here, the route enters the pristine Naar Phu Valley Kangla Pass (5320m), a remote region deeply influenced by Tibetan culture. Stone-built villages cling to high slopes above 4,000 meters, where traditional lifestyles, ancient monasteries, and dramatic landscapes remain largely untouched by modern tourism.
The journey continues toward the legendary Tilicho Lake (5,020 m), a stunning turquoise expanse cradled beneath towering glaciers and snow-covered peaks. Considered one of the highest lakes in the world, Tilicho is a true highlight of the trek. The final challenge is the crossing of Mesokanto La Pass (5,100 m), offering unforgettable high-mountain scenery before a long descent to Jomsom and the deep gorge of the Kali Gandaki Valley.
A truly rewarding expedition, this trek combines high-altitude adventure, raw Himalayan beauty, and rich cultural encounters—an exceptional journey well off the beaten path.
Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu
Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara
A scenic drive along the Prithvi Highway through the hills of central Nepal. After crossing a mountain pass with the first Himalayan views, the road follows the Trisuli River for much of the journey. Arrival in Pokhara, beautifully set beneath the Annapurna range. A walk along Phewa Lake offers superb views of Machapuchare.
Day 4: Pokhara to Khandarjung to Ghale Kharka
A short transfer brings us to Khandarjung (1,300 m), where the trek begins. We ascend through forested trails to Ghale Kharka, a peaceful campsite surrounded by nature.
Day 5: Ghale Kharka To Tara Hill Top
A steep ascent through rhododendron forest rich in birdlife. The trail climbs in steps to Tara Hill Top, a grassy ridge offering one of the finest panoramic views of the trek, including Annapurna South, Machapuchare, Gangapurna, Annapurna II–IV, Lamjung Himal, and Manaslu.
Day 6: Tara Hill Top to Sikles
We follow the ridge before descending gradually on classic “Nepali flat” terrain—short climbs and descents. After crossing a stream and a small landslide area, we reach the Gurung village of Sikles.
Day 7: Sikles to Madkyu Khola to Tanso Kharka
From Sikles, home to ancient Tibetan temples, we descend through forest to a suspension bridge over the Madkyu Khola. A steep climb on the opposite side leads to Tanso Kharka, with magnificent views of Machapuchare, Annapurna II, and Lamjung Himal.
Day 8: Tanso Kharka to Kori Hill Top
A long ascent through forests and alpine pastures, passing several kharkas (sheepfolds). Near the summit, superb views open onto Annapurna South, Mardi Himal, Machapuchare, Annapurna II & IV, and the Three Sisters. Kori Hill Top is one of the trek’s most spectacular viewpoints.
Day 9: Kori Hill Top to Acclimatization Day
A rest and acclimatization day to allow the body to adjust to altitude. Optional short hikes in this exceptional high-mountain setting.
Day 10: Kori Hill Top to Thulek
A short acclimatization walk through alpine terrain, skirting rocky outcrops and passing small lakes. Magnificent views of Machapuchare and Annapurna I accompany the route.
Day 11: Thulek to Tuju to Namun La Base Camp
A long trekking day with multiple ascents and traverses. We pass alpine pastures and cross the Fudju Dewrali Pass (4,380 m) before descending to camp near the junction leading either to Dudh Pokhari or the Annapurna Circuit.
Day 12: Namun La BC to Namun La (4,920 m) to Dafne Kharka
A steep climb leads to Namun La Pass, the high point of this section, offering stunning views of Manaslu. A long descent brings us to alpine meadows and yak pastures.
Day 13: Dafne Kharka to Timang to Koto
Leaving the arid highlands, we descend into forested terrain, reaching Timang and then Koto on the Annapurna Circuit.
Day 14: Koto To Chaucha (Dharamsala)
We leave the Annapurna Circuit and enter the wild Naar Phu Valley. The trail follows the Naar Phu River, crossing it several times through a narrow gorge dotted with caves.
Day 15: Chaucha to Meta
The dramatic gorge gradually opens into a wide valley. Terraced fields signal our arrival near Meta, set beneath Kangaru Himal (6,981 m).
Day 16: Meta To Kyang
A high, arid valley with limited cultivation and grazing. The small hamlet of Kyang sits on a plateau above a deep gorge.
Day 17: Kyang to Phu
The trail narrows into a cliff-side path above the Phu Kola before climbing toward the fortified entrance gate of Phu village. The compact village is a maze of stone houses, chortens, and narrow lanes.
Day 18: Phu To Naar Phedi
We retrace our steps through the gorge with new perspectives on the surrounding peaks. Crossing an old stone bridge, we climb to the monastery of Naar Phedi, where monks welcome trekkers.
Day 19: Naar Phedi To Naar
A steep ascent leads onto a plateau dotted with chortens and yaks. The village of Naar appears below, a beautifully preserved Tibetan-style settlement. Free afternoon to explore.
Day 20: Naar To Kang La (5,320 m) To Ngawal
A long but steady ascent to Kang La Pass, rewarded with extraordinary views of the Annapurna massif and its glaciers. A long descent brings us to Ngawal.
Day 21: Ngawal to Manang
An easier day along a scenic mountainside trail. We rejoin the classic Annapurna Circuit near Braga and continue to Manang, the main town of the valley.
Day 22: Manang to Tilicho Base Camp
We leave the main route and follow a high trail toward Tilicho Lake, passing Khangsar village and traversing sandy slopes carved into the mountainside.
Day 23: Tilicho Base Camp to Tilicho Lake (5,020 m)
A short ascent brings us to Tilicho Lake, a stunning turquoise lake surrounded by glaciers and towering peaks. Overnight near the lake.
Day 24: Tilicho Lake to Mesokanto La (5,100 m) to Kaisang
The most demanding day of the trek. A steep climb over scree leads to Mesokanto La Pass with spectacular views of Dhaulagiri. A long, technical descent reaches the yak pastures of Kaisang.
Day 25: Kaisang to Jomsom
A steady descent along a vehicle track to Thini village, overlooking the Kali Gandaki Valley, then on to Jomsom.
Day 26: Jomsom to Pokhara to Kathmandu
Early morning flight over the Kali Gandaki Valley to Pokhara, then onward to Kathmandu. Free afternoon.
Note: Flights are weather-dependent and may be replaced by road travel if canceled.
Day 27: Kathmandu
Free day in Kathmandu, serving as a buffer in case of delays or for personal exploration.

Physical level in the Annapurna Three High Pass Trek
This program is designed for those who exercise regularly, especially in endurance activities. You only need to carry a daypack with essentials. The trek lasts 14 days, with daily hikes of 6 to 7 hours and altitude changes between 400 m and 1,350 m.
Preparation for the Annapurna Three High Pass Trek
Preparing for the trek requires several months of preparation with 4 to 6-hour walks every weekend for stamina and participating in a sport that requires short periods of high exertion.
Medical check-up before going to the Annapurna Three High Pass Trek
Being in good health is essential to fully enjoy your Alpinist Club trip. If your last medical visit was more than four years ago, please get another general physical exam and tell your doctor the nature of your trip (climate, altitude, difficulty, etc.). The altitude also has the effect of reviving dental problems or other chronic pain, so getting a dental checkup is also prudent. If you are undertaking a high-altitude expedition, we advise you to consult a mountain medicine specialist.
Acute Mountain Sickness
This trip takes place at high altitudes, so some people may experience altitude-related discomfort like headaches, loss of appetite, and swelling of limbs. Most of these symptoms usually go away within a few days, but sometimes they can develop into a serious illness: pulmonary or cerebral edema. There are no preventive drugs for AMS. Diamox diuretic is often effective for symptomatic relief, but you should first check with your doctor to verify that it is not contraindicated for you. Think about it before you go.
Group size for the Annapurna Three High Pass Trek
The group is composed of 1 to 10 participants. The number of participants is voluntarily limited to allow a better immersion, to not embarrass our hosts, to develop spaces of freedom and to allow a great flexibility of operation. However, the maximum number can be exceeded in the case where the last person who registers wishes to travel with another or several other people. The services will not be modified, and the conditions of the trip will be identical as a result.
Personal Equipment for Trekking
Personal equipment is not provided, but a complete list will be shared later. We will refine the list with you during the preparation days and up until departure based on your questions.
High-altitude sleeping bags and quality down jackets are costly items you may not use often. We offer these specific items for rent during the trek. You must return the equipment clean and in good condition, with a deposit required.
Safety During The Trek
Safety has always been our top priority at Alpinist. Our team of expert guides is dedicated to leading a fun and successful climb while ensuring safety remains uncompromised. We plan carefully, considering daily weather forecasts and paying diligent attention as we venture into high altitudes. Throughout the journey, we carry comprehensive medical kits, rescue equipment, and reliable radio and satellite communication gear.
