Technical Mountain Course

The Technical  Mountaineering Course in Nepal is an immersive and comprehensive program designed to equip aspiring mountaineers with the essential skills and knowledge needed to safely and confidently navigate the world of mountaineering. Nestled in the stunning landscapes of the Himalayas, Nepal provides the perfect backdrop for this transformative learning experience.

Duration and Curriculum:


The course typically lasts for around 20 days, during which participants undergo rigorous training under the guidance of experienced mountaineering instructors. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including:

Alpine Climbing Techniques: Participants learn fundamental climbing techniques, rope management, belaying, and efficient movement on rock, snow, and ice.
Glacier Travel: The course emphasizes glacier safety, crevasse rescue techniques, and navigation through treacherous icy terrain.
High Altitude Acclimatization: Students are taught how to cope with altitude-related challenges and how to recognize and manage altitude sickness.
Expedition Planning: Aspiring mountaineers gain knowledge in expedition planning, route selection, and understanding weather patterns to ensure safe and successful climbs.
Knot Tying: Essential knot-tying skills are taught to participants as they are crucial for various aspects of mountaineering.
Equipment Use and Maintenance: Participants learn about the proper use and maintenance of mountaineering equipment, including ice axes, crampons, ropes, and harnesses.

Training Details Itinerary
Course duration: 20 days

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU
When you arrive in Kathmandu you will be welcomed at the airport by our representative staff. Our staff will then drive you to the hotel where you can have a good rest. 

DAY 2: PREPARATION, ORIENTATION, EQUIPMENT CHECK
After breakfast, we'll have a meeting to get familiar with the plan and make sure we have all the right gear. You can use the rest of the day to wander around Kathmandu, try some local food, and maybe pick up anything else you need for the journey. Later, we'll have a nice dinner together and talk more about what to expect on our trip.

DAY 3: DRIVE TO SYBRUBESI (1550M)
After breakfast, we'll take a drive along the hills to the northwest of Kathmandu. Along the way, you can soak in the stunning views of the Himalayas and see how people live in the mountains, passing by fields and small villages. Our destination for the day is Syabrubesi, where we'll spend the night.

DAY 4: TREK TO LAMA HOTEL (2380M)
Today marks the start of our trek. We'll walk alongside the Langtang River, going through a thick forest. The path isn't too tough, and we'll cross some suspension bridges and pass by tea houses. By evening, we'll arrive at the Lama Hotel. Later on, we'll talk about preventing altitude sickness.

DAY 5: TREK TO LANGTANG VILLAGE (3430M)
Today, we're headed to Langtang village. We'll begin our trek after breakfast. We'll pass through beautiful green forests and cross rivers along the way, following the Langtang River. Along the trail, you'll see some interesting monuments like Mani walls and chortens. By evening, we'll arrive at Langtang village and spend some time practicing map reading, tying knots, and learning about managing campsites

DAY 6: TREK TO KYANJIN GOMPA (3850M)
After breakfast, we'll begin our trek to Kyanjin Gompa. It's a small monastery nestled among the Himalayas. Once we arrive, you can explore the area, taking in the breathtaking views of glaciers, icefalls, and wildlife like birds and yaks. The nearby mountains include Yubra, LangShisa Ri, Nayakhang, and Ganchhengbu Peak. We'll spend the night at a hotel in Kyanjin Gompa.

DAY 7: ACCLIMATIZATION DAY
Today, we're heading out for a hike to Kyanjin Ri. It'll be about 3-5 hours. Kyanjin Ri is a cool spot up high at 4773m / 15655 ft. Then, we'll head back down to Kyanjin Gomba for lunch.
After lunch, we'll dive into some training. We'll learn about Jumaring (Self Rescue), Active Rappelling, and knot & rope techniques

DAY 8: TREK TO TSORKU PEAK LOWER BASE CAMP (4500M)
Today, we're trekking to Tsorku Peak Lower Base Camp. We'll spend the night in tents there. During the hike, we'll use the navigation skills we've learned before.

DAY 9: TREK TO HIGHER BASE CAMP (4870M)
Today, we'll kick off our trek from the Higher Base Camp. We'll get the hang of walking in alpine boots, using poles and ice-axes on snow, and mastering glacial walks. Plus, we'll get training on how to rescue someone from a crevasse. Tonight, we'll bunk down in a tented camp.

DAY 10: HIKE TO TSORKU PEAK GLACIER FOR TRAINING
Today, we're learning about different ways to use crampons, like walking flat-footed, moving sideways (traversing), and stepping forward (front pointing). We'll also practice using an ice axe and how to stop yourself if you fall (self-arrest technique). Plus, we'll talk about climbing gear. Then, we'll head back to camp.

DAY 11: HIKE TO TSORKU PEAK GLACIER FOR TRAINING
After we eat breakfast, we'll start our training when we get to the Glacier. We'll learn about top rope ice climbing, how to stay safe and belay properly, and techniques for using ice and snow anchors. Plus, we'll practice using an ice axe to stop ourselves if we fall. We'll be staying in tents at a campsite.

DAY 12: HIKE TO TSORKU PEAK GLACIER FOR TRAINING
We'll be learning a lot during the training. We'll focus on understanding the Demonstration/Description of fixed lines and how to use them on different types of land. We'll also practice rescue techniques. We'll cover other important skills too, like finding people in avalanches and using special tools like ARVA, a probe, and a shovel. Teamwork is also a big part of our training.
Once we finish training, we'll make a plan to reach the top of Tsorku Peak.

DAY 13: SUMMIT DAY
Today we will ascend to the top of Tsorku Peak and descend back to the Base Camp. 

DAY 14: EXTRA DAY FOR SUMMIT
Extra day if the summit day is canceled by any weather hazard or other circumstances. 

DAY 15: TREK BACK TO KYANJIN GOMBA
After we reach the top of the mountain, we'll head back down to Kyanjin Gompa. We'll stay at the same hotel we stayed in before. Later, we'll have a celebration to mark our successful climb.

DAY 16: WATERFALL ICE CLIMBING AROUND KYANJIN GOMBA WATERFALL ICE WALL
After breakfast, we'll head out to do some ice climbing at a nearby frozen waterfall. We'll spend the day climbing on the ice.

Note: In winter, we'll focus on ice climbing, but in other seasons, we'll switch to training for rock rescue and alpine rock climbing. Overnight stay at Kyanjin Gomba. 

DAY 17: TREK TO LAMA HOTEL
Today, we'll go back down to Lama Hotel using the same path we took before. We'll cross the rivers, pass through the lush forest, and finally arrive at Lama Hotel where we'll spend the night.

DAY 18: TREK TO SYABRUBESI
We'll keep going downhill until we reach Stabrubesi, where we'll spend the night. Don't forget to pack up your stuff before bed because we're driving to Kathmandu first thing in the morning.

DAY 19: DRIVE TO KATHMANDU
Return to the track with alternating coniferous forests and pastures. The last views of the Langtang and Ganesh Himal ranges follow one another before a long descent. Arrived at the road, a car awaited us to take us back to Kathmandu.

DAY 20: FINAL DEPARTURE
