Trekking Preparation, Health and Safety

Physical Fitness and Difficulty

The Everest Panorama Trek is a moderate trekking adventure suitable for travelers with reasonable fitness. You should expect approximately 3–7 hours of walking on most trekking days, depending on the route and your pace. Trails include stone steps, uphill climbs, downhill sections, suspension bridges, and forest paths.

Regular walking, hiking, stair climbing, and cardiovascular exercise before departure will help you build stamina. Previous mountaineering experience is not required.

Acclimatization and Altitude Sickness

The trek reaches approximately 3,860 m at Tengboche. At this elevation, Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) can affect anyone, regardless of age or fitness. Common symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, loss of appetite, and difficulty sleeping.

Walk at a steady pace, follow your guide's advice, and report any symptoms immediately. Severe symptoms, including breathlessness at rest, confusion, or loss of coordination, require urgent medical attention and descent when appropriate. Consult a healthcare professional before using altitude medication.

Travel Insurance and Medical Preparation

Travel insurance is strongly recommended and should cover trekking at the maximum altitude of the itinerary, medical treatment, emergency helicopter evacuation, and trip interruption. Check your policy's altitude limits and exclusions before departure.

Bring any personal medication you require and consult your doctor if you have existing medical conditions or concerns about high-altitude travel. A personal first-aid kit is also recommended.

Personal Equipment

Pack suitable trekking boots, layered clothing, a warm jacket, waterproof clothing, gloves, a warm hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a daypack, a reusable water bottle, a headlamp, and personal medication.

Alpinist Club will provide a detailed packing list before departure. Sleeping bags and down jackets may be available for rent, subject to availability and additional charges.

The standard baggage allowance is up to 15 kg per trekker for porter transport, subject to your confirmed package. Keep essential items, valuables, travel documents, and medication in your daypack. Alpinist Club arranges the required insurance for trekking staff according to the confirmed services.

Emergency Support and Communication

Your guide monitors weather, trail conditions, and the group's well-being throughout the trek. The itinerary may be adjusted if necessary for safety. Emergency assistance and evacuation depend on weather, location, and service availability, and helicopter evacuation can be expensive.

Mobile coverage and internet access vary along the route. Many teahouses offer electricity and charging facilities for an additional fee, but connectivity may be limited in remote areas. Carry a power bank and sufficient cash for personal expenses.

Travel Seasons, Local Culture and Important Information

Best Time to Trek

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are generally the most popular seasons for the Everest Panorama Trek. Spring brings blooming rhododendrons and pleasant trekking conditions, while autumn often offers clear mountain views and favorable weather.

Winter can bring freezing temperatures and snowfall, while monsoon conditions may cause rain, cloudy views, wet trails, and flight disruptions. Mountain weather can change quickly, so appropriate clothing and flexibility are essential.

Permits and Travel Documents

The trek requires applicable permits and entry authorization, including Sagarmatha National Park entry authorization and any additional local permits required under current regulations. Alpinist Club arranges the permits included in your confirmed package.

Carry a valid passport and the necessary travel documents throughout the journey. Permit requirements and fees may change, so current regulations will be checked before departure.

Money and Personal Expenses

Carry sufficient Nepalese cash for personal expenses, as ATMs and card payment facilities are limited in mountain villages. Additional costs may include hot showers, Wi-Fi, device charging, snacks, drinks, laundry, tips, and services not listed in your package inclusions.

Local Culture and Responsible Trekking

The Everest region is the traditional homeland of the Sherpa people and has a rich Buddhist cultural heritage. Respect local customs, monasteries, prayer wheels, mani walls, and religious sites. Ask permission before photographing local people or religious ceremonies.

Help protect the Himalayan environment by using reusable water bottles, minimizing plastic waste, staying on established trails, and disposing of rubbish responsibly. Treat guides, porters, and local communities with respect.

Weather Delays and Itinerary Changes

Weather, flight disruptions, trail conditions, and unforeseen circumstances may affect the itinerary. Alpinist Club and your guide may adjust arrangements when necessary for safety or operational reasons. Additional expenses arising from delays or changes are the responsibility of the traveler unless explicitly included in the confirmed package.

Final Travel Checklist

Before departure, confirm your flights, accommodation, meals, permits, baggage allowance, guide and porter arrangements, and package inclusions. Ensure you have suitable trekking equipment, personal medication, valid travel documents, and appropriate travel insurance.
